After another LONG delay our order arrived and …NO OMELETTE!! Scrambled! My sister’s muffin not even TOASTED.
When our server took our order, I asked for an omelette and my sister, an English muffin. I finally just got up and asked someone else and I got some. 10 minutes later, my coffee is getting cold and NO creamer. I told her that I’d like some creamer and she said that she’ll get some. The server was pleasant and brought me coffee. No one even offered us any attention at our table until 30 minutes later. What a disappointment!! The reservation was for 8:30 am. My sister was visiting and I thought she’d enjoy breakfast here-especially because the Cardinal Hotel is a beautifully preserved Art Deco gem. I'd recommend The Katharine, especially to tired hotel guests who don't feel up to leaving the hotel to find a place for dinner. In spite of the hotel's fire alarm going off in the middle of the dinner, and us having to evacuate to the street for a good ten minutes or so, the meal was enjoyable.
Everyone loved the desserts, however, which were the s'mores pot du creme and the apple tart. The chicken au poive was also enjoyable.more so than the trout, which was overpowered by the vinegary potatoes. The steaks were very well cooked, well seasoned and quite good. We started with the onion soup and a simple arugula salad, both of which were quite tasty.įor the entrees, two people got steak, each served with a different house-made compound butter. Even though it is right off the rather stylish art deco lobby of a boutique hotel, the restaurant itself gives off a more casual vibe. There is no need to get dressed up to go to The Katharine. It was incredibly relaxing and when we left I felt like we had not just eaten, we had dined. Tables appeared to be close together, but were not so close that you could hear conversations around you. The restaurant was very busy, but quiet enough that we could talk during dinner in a normal voice. I'm sure the sorbet would have been delicious, judging from the rest of the foods. I was warned off of all desserts except the sorbet by the waitstaff due to food allergies but I was satisfied with what I had already eaten (and sipped) and chose not to have dessert. He was also happy with his selection.ĭessert was Granny Smith Apple Tart served warm with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, House Made Caramel Sauce, Candied Pumpkin Seeds. Our son chose the pepper crusted NY strip steak with pepper sauce, apple puree and crispy Brussel sprouts. They were cooked to perfection and the potatoes were the best I have ever had. My husband and I had the rainbow trout with lemon and capers, roasted fingerling potatoes and green beans. The house made crackers were a delight and the cheeses were indescribably good. The cocktails, wine, fromage (cheese plate) and entrees were exceptionally good. I was impressed that everyone who came to the table made it clear that they were looking out for me in that regard. The staff is very attentive and was very careful to let me know which foods contained ingredients to which I am allergic. Our son took us to the Katharine while he was here visiting from out of state.
